Elizabeth Barker, M.A., LMFT
Hello!
My name is Elizabeth and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in both Colorado and Utah. In my work, I highly value authenticity. I believe that when we bring our full, authentic selves into the process of personal growth, we create a more open and honest therapeutic relationship. This allows us to engage in deeper, more meaningful work together. I work hard to create a supportive and affirming experience for clients of all backgrounds and communities because you deserve to heal in a space where you can be accepted fully as you are. You are enough, and my hope is that you feel seen, supported, and accepted in my presence.
I believe that creating lasting change involves experiencing new patterns in the way we relate to ourselves and the people around us. This means that, in addition to talking about and understanding your experiences, we can work together to create new experiences within our sessions. I have completed formal training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, including both an EFT Externship and Core Skills training, and draw from an attachment-focused perspective in my work with both individuals and couples. I believe that creating these new experiences within the therapeutic relationship can help us move beyond simply understanding our patterns toward actually experiencing new ways of relating.
I also bring my background as a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) into my therapeutic work. My understanding of the body and yoga philosophy informs the way I think about emotional experiences, connection, and healing. I believe our experiences are not only held in our thoughts and stories, but can also be felt and expressed through our bodies. When it feels appropriate for the work we are doing together, I may incorporate body awareness and mindfulness-based practices to help you connect more deeply with your internal experience.
I work collaboratively with my clients because I believe that you are the expert on your own life. I would be honored to support and empower you in making meaningful changes that feel right for you, your relationships, and the life you want to live.
